<dc:description><p dir="ltr">Phytophthora cinnamomi is a destructive oomycete pathogen that secretes effector proteins, including RxLRs, to manipulate host immunity during infection. Although several P. cinnamomi RxLR effectors have previously been identified, their functional roles remain poorly understood. In this study, 16 candidate RxLR effectors were transiently expressed in Nicotiana benthamiana to investigate their localisation and biological activity. The effectors displayed diverse subcellular localisation patterns, including the nucleus, cytoplasm, and plasma membrane. Five candidates induced cell death in planta. PcinRxLR72 required nuclear localisation for its cell death-inducing activity. Expression of PcinRxLR72 also promoted reactive oxygen species accumulation and activated plant immune responses. These findings provide insight into the functional roles of P. cinnamomi RxLRs and an important foundation for future studies of P. cinnamomi – plant interactions.</p></dc:description>
