<dc:description>
The Chemical Insights Exposure (CIEXPO) portfolio is a suite of evolving databases, designed to harmonize information characterizing exposure pathways across the source-to-intake continuum. CIEXPO-Emission is a new database to harmonize and annotate international quantitative reported information on chemical production, import, use, or releases, including production or releases by function or industry. Its schema also allows for collection of reported or predicted emission information from the literature or other sources. Emissions by function category are harmonized to the Function Categories (FC). Data are currently reported by region, country, state or province. In the future, facility-level data will be included, along with new harmonized vocabularies for industry (perhaps based on the United Nations International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities) and for emission activities (releases to compartments or other transfers/uses). Furthermore, in the future CIEXPO-Emission may include curated and harmonized information on releases in near-field (residential settings) such as those from consumer articles, or predicted emissions to the near field generated with consumer exposure models that integrate consumer product concentrations with use pattern information.

CIEXPO-Emission is distributed in portable DuckDB format. DuckDB databases can be accessed programmatically using freely available DuckDB packages for R and Python, with data queried using SQL or higher-level interfaces such as dplyr/dbplyr in R and SQLAlchemy or Ibis in Python. A data dictionary is provided.

Version History:

V0: Version accompanying submission of the following manuscript: Isaacs, KK, Wambaugh JF, Charest N, Sinclair G, Shapiro AJ, Whitehead H, Boatman A, Ferland TM, Wall JT, Wilson M, Sams RL, Edwards S, Thomas RS, and Paul Friedman K.
