<dc:description>
The dataset comprises individual-level, multi-day, free-living uni-axial accelerometry data from 319 African adults (female = 287; male = 32), collected in Limpopo Province, South Africa, during 2000 and 2003–2004. Participants were recruited from rural forestry and urban office settings, and from the Dikgale Health and Demographic Surveillance System site, where women’s daily activities primarily involved subsistence-related tasks and walking for transportation.

The archive contains 373 accelerometry recordings, representing more than 2000 person-days of monitoring. Thirty-four participants contributed recordings on more than one occasion. Waist-worn accelerometry data are provided in 60-second epochs in DAT and AGD formats, together with a recording registry, processed MAH/UFFE and ActiLife outputs, and processing documentation. Associated information includes sex, rural/urban residence, education, employment, household characteristics and anthropometric measurements. In the de-identified Master dataset, exact ages have been replaced with four age groups: under 30, 30–39, 40–49, and 50 years and above. All 319 participants have an age-group classification.

This resource preserves early South African accelerometry data for historical and comparative analyses, methodological investigations of wear-time processing and activity classification, and research on physical behaviour patterns in rural and urban African settings.
</dc:description>
