<dc:description>
Alternative models based on the “random placement hypothesis” vs. the occurrence of processes operating at different scales were experimentally tested in patches of the tube-worm Sabellaria alveolata. Macrofaunal assemblage structure and Hill numbers giving increasing weight to the most abundant species were compared between cores collected from the central portion of patches of three sizes (“small”, “medium”, “large”) and between cores collected from the centre vs. the edge of medium and large patches.

The enclosed files include data used for the analyses on patch area, the effect of patch size (Small vs. Medium vs. Large), and the effect of patch size (Medium vs. Large) and core position within patches (Centre vs. Edge) on each of three Hill numbers and the structure of whole macrofaunal assemblages associated with the tube worm bioconstruction, including covariates (patch volume + distance between cores). The same original data were used to construct rarefaction/extrapolation curves.
</dc:description>
