<dc:description>
This study investigated the location of the dural sac termination (DST) in French bulldogs using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and compared the findings with those of other brachycephalic and non-brachycephalic dog breeds. A retrospective review was performed of lumbosacral MRI studies obtained from two veterinary referral institutions between January 2019 and August 2024. The study included 42 French bulldogs, 53 other brachycephalic dogs, and 59 non-brachycephalic dogs. The DST was identified on sagittal T2-weighted fat-suppressed MRI sequences, and its position was recorded relative to the lumbar and sacral vertebrae. Additional information, including breed, age, body weight, and sex, was also collected.

The study found that French bulldogs had a more cranially located DST compared with both other brachycephalic and non-brachycephalic dogs. Body weight and age were also associated with the location of the DST. These findings provide additional information on breed-related variation in canine spinal anatomy and may be relevant when performing procedures involving the lumbosacral region, including epidural anaesthesia and myelography.
</dc:description>
