<dc:description><p>In recent years, fruit juice consumption has increased worldwide due to its potential health benefits. However, there is concern regarding heavy metals (HMs) in commercial fruit juices, posing significant health risks to their consumers. The current research was carried out to assess the concentrations of HMs in commercially available packaged fruit juices in Pakistan and evaluate their potential health risks through an in vitro digestion model. Samples of packed commercial fruit juices were collected from local markets of Pakistan. Physicochemical and mineral analyses were performed to understand the basic composition of the fruit juices. All collected samples were digested using standard protocols and examined for selected HMs (Al, As, Cr, Cu, Ni, Cd, Zn, and Pb). In several samples, the levels of Pb, As, Cd, and Al exceeded the WHO safety threshold. Pearson’s correlation showed strong positive as well as negative correlation between metals. Bioaccessibility of selected HMs (0.0–84.44%) was assessed using an in vitro digestion model. The non-carcinogenic risk for HMs was above 1 for certain juice brands. For Pb the cancer risk (CR) was below the safe limit. The Cr and Cd CR values fell between 1.0E-06 and 1.0E-04, which is a permitted range, while for As and Ni, the CR value exceeded the USEPA limit (1.0E-04), indicating potential carcinogenic risk for both populations. These results indicate the need for regular monitoring of commercial fruit juices to ensure the food quality and to protect public health.</p></dc:description>
