<dc:description>Introduction
This study aimed to examine conditional associations between social and emotional competence and academic resilience among university students and to identify dimensions with the strongest overall and cross-construct connectivity.
Methods
In a cross-sectional survey, 1,191 students from six universities in Anhui Province, China, completed self-report questionnaires. An EBICglasso network was estimated from Spearman correlations among four social and emotional competence dimensions and six academic resilience dimensions. Node strength, bridge strength, and bootstrap accuracy and stability were assessed.
Results
The network retained 28 of 45 possible edges, including nine cross-construct connections. The strongest cross-construct edges linked self-related competence with goal orientation (0.37), other-related competence with acceptance (0.29), and collective-related competence with meaning orientation (0.24). Goal orientation had the highest strength (0.95), while self-related competence had the highest bridge strength among the social and emotional competence dimensions (0.44). Both centrality indices had correlation-stability coefficients of 0.75. The three leading cross-construct edges remained positive and retained their rankings across alternative tuning parameters and the unregularized partial-correlation network.
Discussion
In this sample, self-regulatory and relational competence dimensions showed distinct patterns of association with academic resilience facets. These findings support examining specific dimension pairs and provide hypotheses for longitudinal research on academic adaptation.
</dc:description>
