<dc:description><p dir="ltr">English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has increasingly gained prominence across professional domains, and the legal sector in Bangladesh is no exception. This study investigates the English language needs of legal practitioners in Bangladeshi courts, drawing on a mixed-methods design comprising surveys, semi-structured interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Findings reveal that legal vocabulary constitutes the primary barrier to effective English communication, while writing and speaking skills are identified as the most critical competence for professional performance, particularly at the High Court level. Practitioners rated their overall English proficiency as working-level, with accuracy and vocabulary acknowledged as key weaknesses. Dissatisfaction with prior English for Legal Purposes (ELP) courses is evident, followed by inadequate focus on practical legal language. The study concludes with a proposed revised ELP syllabus and recommendations for course developers, teacher trainers, and institutional policymakers.</p></dc:description>
