<dc:description>

This dataset supports the study "A dose–effect framework for evaluating the effectiveness of protected area expansion: Integrating Cohen's d into systematic conservation planning" and provides the spatial layers and derived indices used in the analysis. The dataset covers the Loess Plateau region of China and includes the following components:

(1) Five normalized ecosystem service indicators — Soil Carbon, Soil Conservation, Water Yield, Habitat Quality, and Biodiversity. Each layer has been min–max normalized to a 0–1 scale to ensure comparability across services.

(2) RankMap priority layers — Spatial prioritization maps generated by the Zonation algorithm, representing the relative conservation value of each grid cell. The output includes the ranking layer.

(3) Composite Ecological Function Index (CEFI) — A weighted sum index calculated from the five normalized ecosystem service layers, used as the response variable in the dose–effect analysis. The CEFI layer is provided at the same spatial resolution as the input service layers.

All layers are provided in GeoTIFF format with a consistent spatial extent and resolution (1000 m × 1000 m, WGS_1984_Albers). These data are freely available for reuse in conservation planning, ecosystem service mapping, and protected area effectiveness assessment studies. Proper attribution to the associated publication is kindly requested.

</dc:description>
