<dc:description>
Overview
This repository contains the scripts, geospatial data, and GIS project files associated with the MSc thesis “Topographic, geomorphological, and structural controls on river course and incision across Chiribiquete”. The study investigates how the Caquetá–Japurá River responds to geological and topographic changes from the Andes, through the Andean Foreland and Chiribiquete, towards the Amazon Lowland.

Repository contents
The repository contains the following materials:

ArcGIS Pro project package (.ppkx) – Contains the ArcGIS Pro project and associated geospatial data used for the GIS analyses and geomorphological mapping.

MATLAB scripts – Scripts used for the longitudinal river profile, automated cross-river swath profiles, topographic roughness, χ analysis, normalized channel steepness (ksn), local sinuosity, and statistical analyses.

Google Earth Engine scripts – Scripts used for remote-sensing analyses, including processing of Sentinel-2 imagery and NDVI.

Study area
The study follows the Caquetá-Japurá River from its Andean headwaters in Colombia downstream through the Andean Foreland and Chiribiquete region into the Amazon Lowland. The river was divided into four landscape segments for analysis: Andes, Andean Foreland, Chiribiquete, and Amazon Lowland.

Software and spatial reference
The analyses were performed primarily using ArcGIS Pro, MATLAB R2026a, and Google Earth Engine. Spatial analyses were primarily conducted using WGS 84 / UTM zone 18N (EPSG:32618).

Data sources
The analyses make use of several external datasets, including the Copernicus Digital Elevation Model, OpenStreetMap river data, Sentinel-2 imagery, geological data from the Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC), and soil data from ISRIC. These source datasets remain subject to the licences and terms of use of their respective providers.

Purpose and reuse
The materials are provided as supplementary digital material to the MSc thesis to document the analytical workflow and improve transparency and reproducibility. Users should consult the thesis for detailed descriptions of the methods, processing steps, parameter settings, and interpretation of the resulting data.

Author
Marit de Beijer
MSc Earth Sciences
University of Amsterdam
2026
</dc:description>
