<dc:description>
Industrial odour mitigation and industrial odour instrumentation are evaluated at two different sites, and neither evaluation answers the operator's question. Abatement engineering is assessed at the stack, where purification efficiencies of up to 99.9% are documented; monitoring instrumentation is assessed in the laboratory or close to the emission. The nuisance that generates complaints is adjudicated at the receptor. This article argues that field validation of multi-vendor IoT sensing platforms must therefore be conducted at the receptor on the mitigated outcome, not on instrument accuracy or removal efficiency separately, and that the resilience promised by multi-vendor acquisition is delivered at the platform layer rather than at the device layer. We assemble the published field evidence and show that it establishes three things firmly and omits three others. It establishes that abatement reduces emission and that reduced emission shrinks the dispersion range; that metal-oxide arrays can operate continuously for more than a year and that a field electronic nose can be stable under variable atmospheric conditions; and that vendor heterogeneity is a documented structural obstacle, with more than 300 IoT platforms forming closed ecosystems and proprietary formats rendering cross-vendor comparison impossible. It does not establish multi-vendor co-deployment under field conditions, mitigation outcomes measured at the receptor, or behaviour under vendor failure. We propose a four-domain validation framework, specify platform-neutrality requirements, and state four falsifiable propositions.
</dc:description>
