<dc:description><p dir="ltr">To elucidate the physiological mechanisms underlying nutrient-driven harmful algal bloom (HAB) succession, this study conducted multi-seasonal ¹⁵N isotope tracing experiments in the coastal waters of the East China Sea. We quantitatively compared the uptake kinetics of multiple nitrogen sources by representative diatom and dinoflagellate species. It clarified the specific high-affinity utilization capability of key dinoflagellate species for urea and DFAA. This study advances the prediction of algal bloom dynamics from environmental correlations to a mechanistic understanding based on species-specific physiological traits, providing a scientific foundation for the management of coastal ecosystems.</p></dc:description>
