<dc:description>High blood pressure (BP) in midlife increases the risk of dementia, but standard clinic measurements miss BP changes throughout the day and night. This thesis examined 24-hour BP and brain health in adults without dementia. Findings showed that 24-hour BP, particularly higher average levels and greater fluctuations, were linked to poorer brain health, including poorer cognition, injury to the brain’s white matter, altered blood-brain barrier function, or neuronal damage and neuroinflammation. Sleep and night-time blood pressure patterns also appeared to interact with brain health. Further research is needed to determine whether targeting these BP patterns could reduce dementia risk.</dc:description>
