Doubt in materials, personal values and the worthiness of an art practice. Not knowing and not having an answer. Dealing head-on with these feelings of doubt, the artists come together to actively re-purpose this psychological state through creative acts and gestures. This show marked seventeen years since Lani Seligman, Kiron Robinson, Lou Hubbard and Sanja Pahoki explored this idea in an exhibition titled Doubt (2006) at Conical Contemporary Art Space. Over the years, these artists have developed a method of working together that responds directly to a gallery site – as a physical and psychological experience – and to each other’s artworks as they progress. This involves the group meeting several times in the lead-up to an exhibition to discuss the development of new work in a dialogue between thematic proposition, individual practice, site and exhibition space. Revisiting Doubt here at ArtSpace at Realm in their latest exhibition as a collective, the artists invited the viewer along on an existential journey through faith, failure, desire, uncertainty, belief and disbelief.
