<dc:description><p dir="ltr">Activation of targets (e.g., beaker), cohorts (e.g., beetle), rhymes (e.g., speaker), and unrelated words (e.g., carriage) in the EARSHOT model (Magnuson et al., 2020, Cognitive Science) currently being developed by Linkai Peng, James Magnuson, and colleagues. The model exhibits the primary characteristics of human phonological competition: cohorts and rhymes have higher activation than unrelated words and cohorts activate and peak earlier than rhymes. The model was trained on ~20,000 words with sentences and isolated words produced by 966 talkers. The rhyme line ends at the point where fewer than 1000 words had rhymes (rhymes become rare as word length increases).</p></dc:description>
