<dc:description><p dir="ltr">Flexible bronchoscopic intubation is a core but difficult skill for anesthesia residents. Just-in-time (JIT) training, a brief mannequin rehearsal shortly before the clinical procedure, has shown mixed results for other procedures. We compared residents who received a JIT rehearsal before each supervised intubation in addition to conventional training with residents who received conventional training alone. In this single-center retrospective cohort study, all residents received conventional training; from July 2025, residents also completed a mannequin rehearsal within 1 hour before each clinical intubation. From 61 residents (20 JIT, July 2025 to February 2026; 41 conventional-training candidates, January 2024 to June 2025), 1:1 propensity score matching yielded 20 pairs. Each resident was assessed on four supervised intubations. Two external raters blinded to group and assessment number scored all 160 video recordings with a global rating scale (GRS, 8 to 40; primary outcome) and a 10-item checklist. Mixed-effects models with assessment as a categorical factor estimated between-group differences at each assessment (Holm-adjusted). Secondary outcomes were the checklist, intubation time, NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX), success, and safety. Analyses were exploratory. Adding a JIT mannequin rehearsal to conventional training was associated with earlier attainment of higher blinded-rated technical quality, without detectable differences in intubation time, workload, or safety. Because the JIT group also received more practice, timing cannot be isolated; a randomized trial with a dose-matched comparator is warranted.</p></dc:description>
