<dc:description><p dir="ltr">We investigate the behaviour of a pair of atomic ensembles confined to optical cavities which couple to one another through the exchange of light. Such atom-cavity systems are widely studied in quantum optics and have parallels to models from other fields, e.g., condensed-matter and nuclear physics. Hence, understanding the behaviour of such systems is relevant both within quantum optics and elsewhere in quantum physics. Our investigation centers around the ordinary differential equations that govern the system’s time evolution. These equations conserve the total energy of the system, thereby constraining its states to lie on surfaces of constant energy. We fully classify the shapes of these energy surfaces, which depends both on the energy itself and the system parameters. This classification forms the basis for our understanding of the system’s overall behaviour.</p></dc:description>
