<dc:description>
Megasphaera elsdenii is a lactate-consuming bacterium found in the rumen and human gut. In this study, we compared 86 M. elsdenii genomes from human feces with animal gut isolates. Phylogenetic analysis revealed a single, genetically homogeneous lineage without host-specific clustering. Human isolates shared most genes and metabolic pathways with swine and cattle isolates. Genome-scale metabolic modeling showed identical carbon and energy requirements, with conserved lactate and acetate utilization across hosts. This dataset contains 11 of these MAGs recovered from human gut metagenomes: 10 from patients with psoriasis and 1 from a healthy control. Raw reads are available in NCBI SRA under BioProjects PRJNA1102742 and PRJNA1061168.
</dc:description>
