<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This image was captured as part of my ethnographic research involving participant observation at Borobudur Temple, a notable heritage site in Indonesia. By immersing myself in a full temple tour—lasting approximately 90 minutes—I listened as the guide explained the temple's discovery, its connection to Buddhism, and the significance of its carved reliefs. At the same time, we ascended to the temple's summit. As one of the world's largest temples, Borobudur's meaning remains fluid; my research explores its significance, particularly from the perspective of young adult domestic visitors. Do they view it primarily as a site for religious tourism, given its function as a place of Buddhist worship? Or do they see it chiefly as a heritage site—a piece of Indonesian history frequently narrated in school textbooks? The site manager’s objective of promoting the location as a hub for spiritual tourism adds another layer of complexity to this dynamic, with the tour guide playing a pivotal role in facilitating this sacred journey. Ultimately, however, how these young adults interpret the site after the journey ends remains an open question.</p></dc:description>
