<dc:description><p>Aravalli landscape is one of the oldest geological formations in India, and has been subjected to various disturbances specifically in the urban areas. University campuses within this landscape represent important urban green spaces that support biodiversity and provide ecosystem services. This study assessed biodiversity and perceptions of ecosystem services on the 57-year-old Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, situated within this ecologically sensitive area. Vegetation dynamics were analysed using Landsat derived Fractional Vegetation Index (FVI) data (1992–2025), which showed a consistent increase in vegetation cover, with maximum FVI values increasing from 0.33 in 1992 to 0.60 in 2025. Field-based ecological assessment using systematic transect quadrat sampling recorded 57 woody plant species, including 36 tree and 21 shrub species. Of these, 42 (73.68%) were native, 11 (19.30%) were introduced, and 4 (7.02%) were invasive. Diversity indices revealed spatial variation across the campus, with Shannon diversity values ranging from 1.61–2.41 and Menhinick Richness Index values from 0.52–1.07. However, despite their lower species richness, invasive taxa Neltuma juliflora (syn. Prosopis juliflora) and Lantana camara exhibited dominance and high IVI scores across multiple study sites. An open-access flora database of the campus was also developed. Public perception showed strong positive correlations with species richness (r = 0.82) and Shannon diversity (r = 0.62), highlighting green space's biodiversity–perception nexus within the urban landscape. In an increasingly urbanized era, such green university campuses play an important role in enhancing health, well-being, and nature connectedness of people.</p></dc:description>
