<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This doctoral research explores the educational experiences of women doctoral students at Lanzhou University, an elite research university situated in the less-developed region in Northwest China. It examines how gendered expectations, institutional conditions, and regional location intersect in shaping women doctoral students' lives, and how they exercise their agency to respond these conditions. Drawing on narrative inquiry, the study will recruit 10–15 women doctoral students for individual music-elicitation narrative interviews. Music will be used as a creative tool and a prompt to evoke memories, emotions, and reflections, supporting participants in narrating their experiences. Individual narrative portraits and cross-narrative reading will be guided by intersectionality and situated agency, informed by contemporary Chinese feminism. The research aims to contribute to understanding women' doctoral experiences at Lanzhou University in Northwest China and explore the potential of music elicitation in educational research. Its findings may develop more responsive supervision and inclusive doctoral education.</p></dc:description>
