<dc:description>
This dataset maps publicly documented university teaching concerned with cultural heritage digitisation. It was created for the study ‘Teaching Cultural Heritage Digitisation in the Age of AI’ and contains 170 teaching records from 87 institutions across 26 countries, collected from publicly accessible English-language sources and frozen on 20 September 2026.

The principal unit of analysis is a specific teaching unit, including credit-bearing modules, courses, workshops, summer or winter schools and formal university training. Records are divided into three relevance tiers. Tier A identifies teaching in which digitisation, digital imaging, material cultural heritage capture, three-dimensional documentation or digitisation workflow is a central purpose. Tier B identifies broader archaeology, heritage, museum, archive or digital-collections teaching in which digitisation is a substantial explicit component. Tier C identifies adjacent teaching in areas such as digital preservation, curation, metadata and artificial intelligence that helps define the wider educational context but is not treated as equivalent to core digitisation teaching.

For each teaching record, the dataset documents the institution and country, geographical region, course or module title and code, course type, disciplinary home, level or credits, academic year or status, relevance tier, orientation towards physical or material heritage, documented hands-on activity, methods and skills, critical or contextual topics, teaching facilities, named laboratories, equipment or kits, software, assessment, source depth, source URLs, notes and date of access. Countries are normalised using the United Nations M49 geographical classification.

The dataset was compiled from university course pages, module catalogues, syllabi, programme documentation, teaching-facility pages and other publicly available institutional sources. An empty or ‘not publicly specified’ field should not be interpreted as evidence that a topic, facility, item of equipment or activity was absent from teaching. It indicates only that it was not explicitly documented in the public source examined. The dataset is therefore a systematic mapping of publicly findable English-language provision rather than a census of all cultural heritage digitisation teaching worldwide.

No student data, student work, evaluation data, attendance records, learning analytics or other personal data are included. Source URLs and access dates are provided to support verification and future reuse.
</dc:description>
