<dc:description>
Microbiological assessment was performed by quantitative fecal culture using the Florastatus analytical panel. The test quantified selected cultivable bacterial and fungal populations and therefore characterized the cultivable intestinal microbiota represented by the assay, rather than the total intestinal microbial community. Quantified bacterial populations comprised of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Citrobacter spp., Clostridium spp., Bacteroides spp., Bifidobacterium spp., Lactobacillus spp., and Enterococcus spp. Fungal assessment included Candida albicans, other Candida spp., and Geotrichum spp. Microbial abundance was expressed as colony-forming units per gram of feces (CFU/g). Fecal pH was assessed concurrently. An aggregate Flora Index was additionally generated by the laboratory as a composite indicator of deviations in the measured intestinal microbial populations.
</dc:description>
