Preoperative psychosocial factors (depression, anxiety, pain catastrophizing, fear-avoidance/kinesiophobia, coping/acceptance/self-efficacy, outcome expectancy, and multidimensional instruments such as STarT Back) are plausible prognostic markers, but their aggregate evidence base has not been synthesized.
