Recently, VR combined with hypnotic suggestions, termed virtual reality hypnosis (VRH), has emerged as a promising approach across clinical and non-clinical settings. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the use and effectiveness of VRH. Searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Embase following PRISMA guidelines. A total of 54 studies involving healthy and clinical populations were included. Meta-analytic results based on pre-post comparisons indicated a trend toward reduced anxiety following VRH (Hedges’ g = −1.39; 95% CI: −2.91 to 0.14). However, no significant differences were found when VRH was compared with other interventions, and no significant effects emerged for pain outcomes.
