<dc:title>Synchronized Audiovisual Record of Repeated Close-Range Nasal-Like Sounds During Camera-Directed Investigation by a Japanese Serow (Capricornis crispus)</dc:title>

          <dc:description>
This dataset documents an opportunistic close-range audiovisual recording of a wild Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus) investigating a trail camera. During close camera-directed investigation, three repeated low-frequency acoustic events were recorded synchronously with the animal's behavior.

The three selected events occurred at approximately 7.425, 7.970, and 8.550 s in the original video, corresponding to inter-event intervals of 0.545 and 0.580 s. Acoustic analysis showed strongly low-frequency-dominated signals, with approximately 99.7–99.8% of measured energy between 20 and 500 Hz. The spectral centroids of the three events were approximately 188.0, 186.2, and 189.8 Hz, respectively. Their temporal and spectral similarity indicates a repeatable close-range acoustic pattern.

The animal was positioned very close to the camera during these events and appeared to investigate the device with its snout. The sounds are therefore conservatively described as candidate nasal or breath-associated sounds. Because this is a single opportunistic field recording, mechanical contact with the camera or other camera-associated noise cannot be completely excluded.

The dataset includes the original trail-camera video, extracted audio, individually extracted acoustic events, event-level measurements, waveform and spectrogram visualizations, and derived acoustic analyses. Exploratory comparison with low-frequency non-cough cattle reference recordings is also provided as derived analysis; the original external cattle recordings are not redistributed in this dataset.

This dataset is intended to provide a reproducible audiovisual record for studies of Japanese serow behavior, mammalian bioacoustics, camera-directed investigation, close-range respiratory or nasal-like sounds, and multimodal wildlife monitoring. The recording should not be interpreted as establishing a species-specific acoustic signal; rather, it provides an openly accessible observation and quantitative characterization that can be tested against future recordings from additional individuals.
</dc:description>
