<dc:description>
Curated literature-compiled benchmark dataset for two-dimensional bluff-body crossflow. It tabulates the time-averaged drag coefficient (Cd), Strouhal number (St) and lift coefficient (Cl, mean and rms/amplitude) for a stationary smooth circular cylinder (Re = 0.1 to 7e6, covering creeping, steady-separated, laminar-shedding, wake-transition, subcritical, critical/drag-crisis, supercritical and transcritical regimes) and for 2D elliptical cylinders (intrinsic major/minor axis ratio 1:1 to 100:1, with an explicit major-axis-orientation field and a projected streamwise/cross-stream axis-ratio field, Re = 0.1 to 1e5).

The dataset contains 252 records in five CSV tables, all with full source traceability, method type, flow-regime label, uncertainty estimate and a three-level quality flag. Version 1.5.0 adds a derived unified query layer and a fitted-scaling-law layer without adding source records: cbb2d_master_query.csv merges all five tables into a single 252-row schema served by the included query tool (query_cbb2d.py: filtering by family, Reynolds-number range, angle of attack, axis ratio, quality flag, method and regime, nearest-Re lookup and CSV export), and fitted_scaling_laws.csv stores 16 least-squares scaling laws fitted from the dataset itself, each with R-squared, sample size, declared validity ranges and usage cautions - including the by-design weak fits that quantify regime boundaries (Strouhal-axis-ratio insensitivity below Re = 200; breakdown of the sin(2*alpha) lift-amplitude law at Re = 100). Version 1.5.0 also repairs a historical column shift in four rows (cir_002-cir_005) of the circular-cylinder table (no numeric value was touched), and version 1.4.0 augments the medium-Reynolds-number mild-ellipticity layer from 56 to 66 records by filling its lift-coefficient gap over Re = 100 to 1.2e3.

Data compiled from published literature; original sources retain copyright. Uncertainty and quality flags are provided per record; see the included data dictionary (metadata/data_dictionary.md). Figure-digitised rows are flagged quality_flag = low or medium and are recommended for re-verification before safety-critical use. Released under CC BY 4.0.

</dc:description>
