<dc:description>
Objectives: To evaluate the association between psychostimulant use and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among older adults through a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: Four databases were systematically searched for observational studies. Evidence was summarized using narrative synthesis, with random-effects meta-analyses performed where appropriate.
Results: Seven studies involving 263,104 participants from six countries or regions were included. Psychostimulant use was not significantly associated with overall CVD risk. Subgroup analyses showed no significant association with myocardial infarction, but significantly increased risks of cerebrovascular events and cardiac arrhythmias.
Conclusions: These findings suggest that cardiovascular risk assessment and monitoring should be considered when prescribing psychostimulants to older adults. Further high-quality prospective studies are needed to clarify the cardiovascular safety of psychostimulants and provide stronger evidence to support their rational use in older adults.
</dc:description>
