<dc:description><p dir="ltr">Plantar loading involves both normal and shear forces, yet shear is much harder to measure reliably inside footwear. This research develops a soft capacitive sensor capable of detecting both forces using a single sensing platform. The sensor combines interdigital electrodes with a soft composite dielectric. Under compression, deformation produces a common capacitance response, while shear produces differential responses that indicate shear magnitude and direction. Multiple sensors can be integrated into an insole to measure plantar loading at different locations. The aim is to provide a simple, compact and practical sensing approach for future smart insoles and wearable plantar monitoring systems.</p></dc:description>
