<dc:description>
As part of the Qatar National Day celebrations, Qatar National Library hosted a unique workshop on the production of purple dye, the maroon color for which Qatar and its flag are known.

The workshop was presented by Faisal Abdulla Al Naimi, Director of the Department of Archaeology at Qatar Museums. He introduced participants to the types of shells used by ancient humans in Qatar, and explained how the purple dye was extracted from these shells and applied directly to fabric. Participants learned how the dye gradually turns into the maroon color that has been associated with Qatar throughout history and became the distinctive color of its national flag.

The workshop offered visitors a hands-on opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Qatar's history, archaeology, and cultural heritage.

Other Information

License: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
</dc:description>
