<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This item contains a short close-up video of the drainage cannula line of a veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) circuit, together with a quantitative analysis of blood colour within the tubing. With the naked eye, the drained blood visibly alternates between darker and brighter red over time. We hypothesised that this reflects recirculation of oxygenated return blood into the drainage cannula, modulated by the cardiac cycle, and quantified the phenomenon from the video. A rectangular region of interest (ROI, 100 × 40 px) was placed on the blood column and tracked across frames by template matching on the printed tubing text, to compensate for hand-held camera motion. The mean red-channel intensity and the chromaticity R/(R+G+B) were extracted for each frame. The signal was band-pass filtered (0.7–4 Hz, 2nd-order Butterworth, zero-phase), and peaks were identified. A second ROI on the white surgical drape served as an illumination control. Chromaticity closely followed red-channel intensity (r = 0.96), indicating a change in hue rather than in brightness alone. The illumination control was stable (variation <1%) and uncorrelated with the blood signal.</p></dc:description>
