Dataset: Explicit Phonological Knowledge, Auditory Categorization, and Production of British English Monophthongs among Algerian Learners of English Moustafa Amrate (25074112) Phonetics and speech science Speech production English language British English monophthongs L2 speech explicit phonological knowledge auditory categorization phonetic transcription vowel production Algerian learners of English second language acquisition English pronunciation acoustic phonetics <p dir="ltr">The dataset contains de-identified data from 42 Algerian undergraduate learners of English who completed three tasks targeting eleven British English monophthongs: /ɪ, iː, ʊ, uː, e, ɜː, ɒ, ɔː, æ, ʌ, ɑː/.</p><p dir="ltr">The study examined three dimensions of L2 vowel learning: explicit phonological knowledge, auditory categorization, and acoustic vowel production. Explicit phonological knowledge was assessed through a phonetic transcription task, auditory categorization through a forced-choice identification task, and production through a controlled /hVd/ word-list reading task.</p><p dir="ltr">The dataset includes participant-level task scores and acoustic production measures, including F1 and F2 values and measures of acoustic distance from established Standard Southern British English reference values. The data were used to examine vowel-specific performance patterns and the associations among explicit phonological knowledge, auditory categorization, and acoustic production.</p><p dir="ltr">The dataset has been de-identified for research-data sharing.
