<dc:description>Zero-valent iron (Fe(0)) nanoparticles have a wide range of applications, including catalysis, energy storage and a potential role in human brain neurochemistry. This study shows that [Fe3(CO)12] can be dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). It is used to produce Fe(0) at 368 K (243 W) in 30 s with a microwave reactor. The use of microwave yielded well-dispersed, pure Fe(0) nanoparticles, and the samples yielded between 97.3 and 98.5 %. The effect of time on controlling the size of particles is studied and characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (ADF-STEM) shows the average size of nanoparticles in 30 s and 368 K to be 25.7 nm. The sizes of the particles vary in electron microscopy (EM) between 20 and 40 nm. The powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) of the Fe (0) profile indicates the pure phase, face-centred cubic (FCC) structure with Fm3 ̅m space group and γ-Fe phase. Regarding the time changes between 5 min and 30 seconds, the unit cell parameters vary between 3.53911 (0.00018) and 3.53144 (0.00009) Å. This facile procedure significantly improves the safety profile and reaction control to provide a practical method for synthesizing pure Fe(0) nanoparticles.<br><br>Powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission microscopy data on metallic iron nanoparticles from triiron dodecacarbonyl</dc:description>
