<dc:description>
The Bark and Ambrosia Beetle Pathogen Database is a global literature-derived dataset of reported pathogens and parasites associated with bark and ambrosia beetles in the subfamily Scolytinae. Version 1.0 contains 1,011 records compiled from 281 primary publications spanning 1914–2026 and covers 114 beetle species in 29 genera and 285 candidate pathogen or parasite taxa. The literature search was completed on 24 July 2026.

The dataset includes reported associations involving fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes, protists, and microsporidia. Each record represents a unique literature-derived pathogen- or parasite–beetle association reported for a country or region within a publication, rather than an independent biological replicate. Metadata include beetle host, pathogen or parasite identity, organism category, geographic information, ecological relationship, organism source, infection site, identification method, experimental conditions, literature source, and available validation evidence.

Reported association does not necessarily indicate experimentally confirmed infection or pathogenicity. Detection, isolation, or association records are retained separately from evidence of infection, pathogenicity, and virulence. Organisms reported from bark and ambrosia beetles are retained with their ecological relationship coded according to the source literature. For fungi and bacteria, taxa reported only as associates are retained in the dataset but are coded as associates rather than pathogens unless the source explicitly identifies or supports a pathogenic relationship.

The dataset is intended as a standardized resource for research on insect pathology, host–parasite interactions, forest entomology, forest health, biological control, and bark and ambrosia beetle ecology. Literature coverage is uneven among beetle species, pathogen groups, geographic regions, and time periods; the number of records should not be interpreted as pathogen prevalence, infection frequency, or biological importance. Absence of a record should not be interpreted as biological absence.

Interactive browsing is available through the Bark & Ambrosia Beetle Gallery. A visual companion site with summary figures, grouped views, validation summaries, and references is available at this site.
