<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This large scale black and white video installation traces a slow transect across the UAE, inviting viewers to encounter a landscape shaped by desire, ambition, capital and infrastructure – By Design! Through slowed footage, original ambient piano score and carefully crafted sound production, the work asks how design has contributed to the precarious conditions of the present, and how it might also help us attend more ethically to what comes next. The visual component reveals a place as it is and as it dreams to be, using motion and duration as research methods for revealing the true reality and magnitude of our actions. Played at just under quarter speed, the footage unsettles the familiar and allows material, environmental and cultural tensions to become newly legible. The sound contribution provides a reflective, minimal composition that holds attention without resolving it, creating space for contemplation rather than distraction. Image and sound work together as an immersive sensory encounter. The viewer’s presence, proximity and listening become part of the work’s meaning, drawing attention to the worldviews that shape both place and perception. The work intends to elicit a quiet but generative response: a moment of recognition in which viewers are invited to re-sense the built environment, consider their own complicity within it, and ask how we might proceed with greater care.</p></dc:description>
