<dc:description><p dir="ltr">Default images from basic prompts depict wāhine Māori in the near future (e.g. 2036) in ceremonial dress and locate them in remote settings. Removing the word & Māori from prompts results in non-Māori women depicted through science fiction conventions. This image exploits those limitations. My wahine is caught in a candid photograph. She is a contemporary of her time, an innovator and business person. I present her on the Aotearoa coastline, a boundaried context, in front of her own DIY tech: an arrivals gate for interdimension tourism, for which she is also kaitiaki. The image broadens the visual possibilities associated with Māori phenotypes. Her grey hair is cropped and stylish and she exemplifies the wide range of possibilities for visualising a Māori identity. I selected an image without tattoos. There is no way to include moko kauae in a generated image while respecting tā moko as a creative practice and without also risking appropriation of an identity marker that belongs to its wearer.</p></dc:description>
