<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This study compared the VITEK® REVEALTM fast AST system for direct testing from positive blood cultures (PBCs) with the standard-of-care VITEK® 2.A total of 250 prospectively collected PBC bottles containing monomicrobial Gram-negative organisms were assessed. AST was performed using VITEK® REVEALTM directly from PBC and VITEK® 2 from isolated colonies recovered from the PBC. Essential agreement (EA), categorical agreement (CA), and discrepancy rates were calculated. Time to result (TTR) was also recorded. When compared to VITEK® 2, VITEK® REVEALTM demonstrated EA of 97.51% and CA of 94.83% across 4,180 organism–antimicrobial comparisons with agreement exceeding 95% for most antimicrobials. When evaluating instrument run time (not inclusive of the 18-24 h subculture times), the REVEALTM reported final results approximately 4 hours sooner than VITEK® 2 (median 8.0 h vs 11.9 h). REVEALTM reported final results for resistant isolates faster than susceptible or intermediate isolates (median 5.4 h vs 6.5 h). VITEK® REVEALTM provides fast, accurate phenotypic AST directly from positive blood cultures comprising monomicrobial Gram-negative organisms and complements VITEK® 2 by accelerating early susceptibility reporting.</p></dc:description>
