2017 Coastal Homeowner Survey (New Hanover County, NC) Tracy Kijewski-Correa (17332285) Debra Javeline (19714225) Political science North Carolina; Hurricane Damage; Climate Adaptation; Homeowner Decision Making; New Hanover County; Household Survey; <p dir="ltr">The Coastal Homeowner Survey includes questions on structural mitigations implemented or intended, focusing on those that are easily self-reported and comply with IBHS FORTIFIED Home building standard. Other questions address home valuation, insurance experiences, hurricane and flood experiences (including home damage), socio-political attitudes and opinions, and community and household life.   </p><p dir="ltr">Between June 23 and August 13, 2017, 662 respondents completed the survey (504 hardcopy, 158 online, 16.8% response rate using AAPOR 2015). The surveyed households occupy the barrier islands, the mainland coastline just behind these islands, and the mainland riverine systems such as the Cape Fear River.  </p><p dir="ltr">The dataset is a CSV file with responses to each survey question in the accompanying questionnaire (see Question Labels file for variables assigned to each survey question). Note that the dataset also includes several derived values:  home_age, yrs_recent_damage, yrs_in_home,age , adults_in_hh.
