<dc:description>This report is a case study of refugees from Burundi and their settlement in Tanzania. It follows the progress of one particular rural settlement for Burundian refugees from the first surveying of the once uninhabited tracts to the hand-over by the international community to the Tanzanian government of a settlement with eleven villages fully equipped with societal infrastructure. The study reveals that refugee situations can be rooted deeply in history, and that settlements for refugees, however hampered by poor physical qualities, can provide a safe shelter and means of livelihood by which to subsist without external aid.</dc:description>
