<dc:description>This paper examines the complex ways in which ethnicity and religion shape social identities, and how people are mobilized to support movements based on such cleavages. It also looks at the role of violence in social conflicts, why certain types of violence are preferred by social movements, and how violence, in turn, structures the identities of group actors and the dynamics of conflicts. Finally, it examines a range of policy issues relating to the resolution or management of ethnic and religious conflicts and political violence.</dc:description>
