<dc:description>In 1945 several thousand anticommunist Slovenes fled the advancing communist armies and took refuge in the Austrian province of Carinthia, then occupied by the British Army. The British authorities, however, did not grant them protection and handed some 12,000 over to the Yugoslav partisans, who, without legal proceedings, executed them. With the help of some humanitarian-minded British individuals the hand-over was not completed and some 7,000 refugees were spared. Among them were a group of young students who were accommodated in a special camp in Graz, Austria, where they could begin or continue their education at the University... In 1995 a group of these students commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of their departure from Slovenia, the tragedy of the forcible handover, and the new start they received in Graz. Among the events held, was a symposium in Tinje/Teinach in Carinthia, at which speakers presented their views on the historical events of those years. This document is an extract of the proceedings of that symposium. [Document includes a map and two photograph portraits]</dc:description>
