<dc:description>This guide offers an alternative to traditional approaches of undertaking nutritional assessments during relief operations. In doing so, the authors hope to encourage readers to identify the best approach for their particular situations, rather than continue to apply impractical or inappropriate techniques. The first part reviews current perspectives on nutrition, famine and nutritional assessment methods. The second part presents a case study of Darfur, Sudan, where the authors designed a new approach to assessing nutrition on the ground; and the final part proposes new models for the future. An extensive bibliography is included.</dc:description>
