<dc:description>Final report of the USAID-funded southern Sudan Vulnerability Study, which was undertaken between May 1997 and June 1998. The aim of the research is to help aid workers better understand how society functions in the areas in which they operate, particularly with regard to those considered 'vulnerable.' The report focuses primarily on the Dinka areas in southern Sudan. Chapters cover politics, kinship and marriage, religious beliefs and philosophy, economics, welfare and inequality, vulnerability, and intervention. Two additional chapters present case studies on Paliau village and the Thiek Thou area. Included as an appendix is a glossary of the Dinka language. Also provided is a selective annotated bibliography.</dc:description>
