<dc:description>This paper is about people and how they cope in the arid and semi-arid areas of east Africa. It is about the pastoral and agro-pastoral population in the IGAD member countries, namely: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. It deals with some of the socio-economic problems that pastoralists and agro-pastoralists face in these countries and shows the various approaches and the attempts carried out by OSSREA, researchers in the sub-region and the people themselves to improve their livelihoods at the household and at the community level... The presentation of this paper is divided into the general context of the drylands in the Horn of Africa followed by the major OSSREA dryland project, viz. The dryland Husbandry Project.</dc:description>
