<dc:description>Conference report from a Stanley Foundation hosted conference on 'leadership in post-conflict operations' which brought together a group of policy experts, high-level UN officials, and former special representatives of the secretary-general (SRSG) to focus on broad-based and pragmatic policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the leadership of post-conflict reconstruction operations. Conference discussion was organized into four substantive areas that impact the leadership of post-conflict operations: mission and mandate; resources; implementation and; SRSG nomination and qualifications. Within these areas, the discussions elicited several general principles for enhancing the leadership of UN post conflict operations, as well as 12 specific recommendations for making post-conflict operations more effective.</dc:description>
