<dc:description>Drawing upon personal testimonies and qualitative methodologies this study seeks to examine how undocumented immigrants experience their own citizenship as they reflect on the balance of living life in the open with a life of permanent uncertainty and hiding. It asks: How do we understand the tension between undocumented immigrants' claims to rights and citizenship, despite not having formal immigration status, and living on the outskirts because of the threat and fear of deportation and what does this tell us about the citizenship of undocumented immigrants? This paper explores these questions from the perspectives of twelve immigrants in the US, the majority undocumented and from Mexico, who have lived in Tennessee, in some cases almost their entire lives.</dc:description>
