<dc:description>
This dataset supports a two-phase research project on the development and evaluation of a dyadic empowerment-based sport stacking program for people living with dementia (PLwD) and their family caregivers. The research aimed to examine the mechanisms through which behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) contribute to caregiver health deterioration, and to develop and test a theoretically grounded dyadic sport stacking program targeting cognitive function, neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among PLwD, as well as expressed emotion (EE), burden, and HRQoL among their family caregivers, and relationship quality within the dyad.

The dataset comprises three components corresponding to different phases of the study. The first is a cross-sectional dataset (N=200) examining the pathways from BPSD to caregiver health outcomes, including depression and HRQoL, with EE, maladaptive attributions, neuroticism, and dyadic relationship strain as key explanatory variables, analysed using structural equation modelling. The second is a randomized controlled trial dataset (N=106 care dyads) evaluating the effectiveness of an 18-week dyadic empowerment-based sport stacking program against a basic education control condition, with outcomes assessed at baseline, 12 weeks, and 18 weeks across cognitive function, NPS, and HRQoL among PLwD, as well as EE, burden, and HRQoL among their family caregivers, and relationship quality within the dyad. The third is a qualitative dataset (N=30 care dyads) comprising semi-structured interview data exploring the experiences of participants in the intervention group following completion of the dyadic empowerment-based sport stacking program.
</dc:description>
