<dc:description><p dir="ltr">This study aims to address plastic pollution challenges faced in El Cercado, Dominican Republic, through a community-based approach. Discarded packaging sheets, films and wraps made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were heat-pressed into laminates, which were then used as lining materials for low-load consumer products such as handbags, purses and wallets. A full factorial design of experiments was employed, incorporating three input factors at two levels of variation each: processing time, processing temperature, and sheet metal backing material. Modulus of elasticity, ultimate tensile strength, elongation and yield stress were characterized to determine the impact of various processing conditions on the mechanical properties of the LDPE laminates.</p></dc:description>
