<dc:description>This thesis explores the relationship between contemporary documentary film and surveillance technologies, examining how filmmakers both interrogate and utilise digital tools associated with modern surveillance cultures. It considers how emerging formats - such as VR/AR, animation, and interactive media - are reshaping documentary practice while influencing perceptions of reality, particularly in political contexts. The thesis argues that these technologies can both reinforce and challenge systems of control, highlighting their potential to critique hyper-vigilant societies and the mechanisms that sustain surveillance, censorship, and suspicion within democratic frameworks.

Thesis is embargoed until 31 July 2030.</dc:description>
