<dc:description>This research investigates the role of the process of economic liberalisation, privatisation of assets and globalisation (LPG) in shaping people’s political perspectives towards the nationalist militant organisation called United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in Assam, India. By using Mannheim’s (1952) concept of ‘fresh contact’ it explores whether LPG provides people a fresh contact to shape their political values. Further, it analyses whether intergenerational transmission of values within the family can shape one’s perspectives about the larger socio-political surroundings. The thesis contributes to a sociological understanding of generational change and intergenerational value transmission in the context of the changing political economy in India.</dc:description>
